What is the first mistake a brand new real estate salesperson makes when starting out?
Many of you probably joined the real estate industry coming from the employment background. When you are employed, you are working in a very controlled environment. Your work is already cut out for you. There are systems already in place and you just follow the work processes. Most of the business setup is already done for you. All you need to do is to complete the given tasks and perhaps do a little bit more to impress your bosses.
But when you join the real estate Industry, you’re now in a different world.
You’re now your own boss. The time is yours and you set your own target. You don’t have to report to anyone else but to yourself and your family.
This requires a massive change in mindset.
You now have to think about what you need to do to generate leads. You have to know how to setup your office and do the admin work. You’ve to start thinking how to do business development, how to close deals and bring value to your client. All of these you now have to do on your own.
There’re no one else to do them for you. If you don’t start doing any of these, you’ll have a tough time ahead of you.
To be a successful real estate agent, you need to start thinking from a different perspective.
You need to move your thinking away from the employment world.
Gone are the days where you do what you’re told to do. You now have to think and decide what you really need to do to survive and to excel in this business.
You need to make tough decisions, decisions that could make or break your business.
If you do not know how to go about doing all these things, find someone who is already in the business, who is successful in what they do and find the time to talk to them. You need to start talking to them, find out what needs to be done and learn how to do it. And if you still can’t find that someone, you can always call me and I’ll find a solution for you.
So, for today’s video, I just want to share with you about changing your mindset, from working for somebody to becoming a business person, running your own business. Because when you’re running your own business, you need to think like a business person.
I realized many new agents don’t have this mindset. This is often the first big mistake a brand new agent makes.
You’ve got to change if you truly want to be independent and to achieve the kind of success you set your goals on. This is an important first step.
I get to meet many real estate salesperson regularly.
From my interactions with them and their sharing with me, especially the new agents, they are often stuck at what to do next. It’s no fault of theirs because, their mindset is still in the “I’m working for people” thinking.
My advice to them is what I’m sharing with you now. You need to change your thinking to “I’m now a business owner, I’m no longer an employee. I need to think everyday when I wake up, what I need to do to meet new clients.”
It’ll definitely take time to change but it’s never too late to start now.
